9"x12" acrylic and dry media on toned paper
The rule I set for myself here was that I couldn't break out my little brushes- whatever I wanted to show, I needed to use a respectable sized filbert, or the charcoal/white pastel. It was fun :) And it was a beautiful picture to work from, too.
Got to thinking about some more things I need to play with, too- the way everything is inverted through the glass, for instance, is that because it's a round vase? What would it look like halfway full? And din't I see something similar for cheap at AC Moore, and can I pretty please justify stopping there sometime soon and getting one? LOL
Anywho, IF my internet ever starts working well enough to upload this image.... for everyone who's not familiar with my relationship with my internet carrier, CLEARWIRE SUCKS.... then you can see the pretty picture. Otherwise, check out everyone else's wonderful sketches with this same reference photo at Virtual Sketch Date (that's a link, click on it) and definately join in next month- I love this whole thing!

Ooo, I love this. It looks like you had fun with it. The marks you used really give the piece energy and your whites pop.
ReplyDeleteI love the boldness and contrasts in this piece. The toned paper really adds to it as well. Isn't glass neat to draw?
ReplyDeleteClever piece of work! I love the use of mixed media. Of course - that is what such a complex subject needed - why didn't I think of that?
ReplyDeleteBrilliant results too.
this has a really nice old style painter feel to it. Well done. :) (I want a pony too :p)
ReplyDeleteI love how you've simplified the colors to mostly black and white...brings out where you have put in the pink and green! Very nice.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I love the drama you infused into this image with color and contrast.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed my visit to your blog and viewing your wonderful art. I'm sure I'll be back!
Hi Kellie, I like your take on the ref and I'm glad you didn't crop out the edges of your picture, it's good to see those bold marks.
ReplyDeleteHi Kellie,
ReplyDeleteThis is great!
Yes, you can go buy a fishbowl (it does make you want one badly, doesn't it?)
This is dramatic and beautiful! Using the toned paper was inspired, no need to worry about the table reflection in the vase...
ReplyDeleteI like the tan from the vase and background - it brings a different feel to the overall picture. Very nicely done, and great pallette!
ReplyDeleteKellie - Also I noticed the work on your website loads quite slowly - didn't know if that was your website host or extra large images, but wanted to be sure you were aware of it.

Love the way your petals turned out in this one. Beautiful job, too bad about your internet connection.
ReplyDeleteHi Kellie,
ReplyDeleteI didn't have a chance to do it this month, but when I saw the pic for Sept, the inverted reflections were exactly what caught my eye. Well done!
I love the bright clear colors. Nice rendering.
ReplyDeleteLove how smooth your petals are in contrast to the rougher background.
ReplyDeleteWell done!
I love the petals, they just pop against the backdrop
ReplyDeleteI love your work, and great rendering of the Virtual Art photo! Really lovely!
ReplyDeleteI like the way you simplified this - such a striking piece. And your interesting comments about the glass - it gave me a lot to think about too!
ReplyDeleteDrama! I love how this has been done!
ReplyDeleteWonderful!
