Harumph. It is almost midnight and this spoon just will NOT act right. Trying again tomorrow. Goodnight my loves!

Something spooky- revisiting these two little baby dolls.

Shades of Blue II

5"x7"

I love the beautiful swirls inside the marbles..... although I guess the magic for me really is in the roundness of them, and the beautiful things they do with light because they're these wonderful spheres of glass.

Shades of Blue I

5"x7"

Just something pretty. Shiny things in the light of those interesting new LED ball thingies. You know how I am about marbles!

The Explorers

I've learned that it is best to just not ask myself too many questions. It means that interesting things are free to happen.

Transitional Creatures

12"x12"

A little water-goat fairy creature came to me, and graciously agreed to let me paint her. Isn't she adorable?

Eye Contact

5"x7"

This is me, trying to figure out how to paint a goat's eye. Once you get past the weirdness, they're beautiful!

January Afternoon

5"x7"

Trying to decide if I ventured too far from my comfort zone in this one. Well, that's what dailies are for!

Pale Hen

5"x7"

And out strides a Pale Hen. Love how this one came out! It started out being all about that wild glow to her eye, but then there were the pretty soft pale feathers and just textures in general....

White Lines

5"x7"

Pretty kitty at Swanfire Farm.... in case you're wondering about the title, something about the white stripes of the chair and the white whiskers and eyebrow hairs. It totally made sense at the time.

Patchwork Colors

5"x7"

I got to go over to Swanfire Farm and take lots and lots of fun reference photos! A whole new rabbit hole to jump in!

Garlic and Shadow

5"x7"

Sometimes you just want to paint something simple. But still sculptural or whatever. And sometimes your friend Cara came over for a cooking day, and her approach to taking cloves of garlic off is apparently quite different from yours and now you really just *have* to paint said garlic.

French Press

5"x7"

Shiny stuff!
Better yet, shiny stuff that is involved in the making of coffee! I was totally given the world's cutest french press.

Corset Back

My neutrals are really coming along, lately! Also- yay textures.

Sliced Orange

5"x7"

Trying to keep a feeling going from yesterday, focusing on the light..... more color made it into this one, I'm not sure how. It doesn't seem like orange would be a particularly sneaky color. Still, it feels bright!

A Snowman

5"x7"

A snowman who needs no introduction- you know I like painting my daughter's toys, and this was lots of fun!

Skull and Spheres

8" diameter

Some more "smooky"ness! I'm experimenting with new light sources here with some LED spheres, and my beloved go-to still life painting props- skulls and marbles. This painting went straight up on the dining room wall after being finished!

Shadows II

5"x7"

I keep trying and trying to figure out how to imagine light into a painting instead of just painting what is there, how to create a glow on things that might not normally glow.

Like deer, for instance. Not normally glow-ers.

I feel like I had a breakthrough with these two!

Blue

9"x12"

Experimenting with colors, all those beautiful blues and some neutrals over that ridiculous red- and I LOVE it! So vibrant.

Dreadlocks

9"x12"

My daughter has a friend with magical hair. The first time I tried painting it I couldn't even bring myself to share the result, and you know me, I will almost always share my failures...
*sigh*
But this came out much better! Now I'm just not sure if I should approach this as a painting to be finished, or a finished piece all on its own. Maybe a prepatory sketch.
