Pretty little still life. Zinnias move a surprising amount after being cut, it was rather a tricky one! I quite like the little dark green apothecary bottle though.

I brought some more dahlias in from the garden to paint! I'm really enjoying this approach to dailies, I'm even sketching in the large forms with a brush which is new for me, and feels wonderful.

The Berry Thicket

The rabbit family who lives in the mass of honeysuckle across the road has expanded into the berry thicket by the driveway! The inhabitants of the thicket have been most agreeable about posing.

Something simple and beautiful. A barn owl flying over the full moon. I thought about adding a cat in there, or some moths flying around.... maybe on another painting, this one felt like it ought to focus on just a couple things.

I found a small piece of a wonderfully shiny shell at the beach, and had to try painting it! I always learn so much from a painting like this.

My walking onions are blooming and staggering around the front yard, and I had to bring one in to paint. They don't even look real, but are so much fun.

Apparently my camera really loves cerulean, I could not get an accurate picture for anything- the blue in question is actually much darker. Gr. Having to make explanations like that takes the edge off my "oh my goodness this is so cute everyone come love it!"

Today I was sitting by the frog puddle, and one of the frogs actually came up to the edge of the water closest to me and stared at me for the longest time. It had the darkest eyes, with just a thin ring of gold.... and I decided to put those eyes in here. And do a few days experimenting with the same reference photo over and over, just to see what comes of it. So here's day one with her :)
