The Tiny Human saw duck eggs for sale at the local co-op and really really wanted some. When we got them home I knew I'd have to steal one for a little while to paint- the eggs look like they are glowing a tiny bit, and they're such a lovely warm white.

honestly, I've been terribly sad and uncertain lately. and then yesterday when I startled this beautiful luna moth from his hiding place and he was just so heartbreakingly fragile and helpless and glowing there in the leaf litter, no camouflage or protection at all and so perfect, obviously just out of the shelter of the cocoon....

I had to try and paint him as terribly fragile and helpless and glowing.

and even bigger than life, since part of that terrible vulnerability was the sheer size and brightness, this canvas is 12"x16" and the luna moth takes up pretty much the whole thing, just a fringe of leaves around it.
