Not bad, though, since they go together so well.... it's funny how much fun I have painting icing, considering I don't like eating it at all. It's just so pretty!

this seems out of character, doesn't it? do you think I ought to try and finish the fluffy little bits of cuteness?

I think so. they make me smile.

Orange Handled Scissors

That's the thing with daily paintings, sooner or later you paint every single thing in the house. Here we have the scissors that were sitting on my table where Naomi left them, when I was casting about trying to figure out what to paint :)

Allright, I am loving this one but I'm also not sure if it's done or not. Waffling, you know.

Waffle waffle waffle.

Ok, not going to figure it out until I'm better rested....

Persimmon V

5"x7"

One of my favorite vendors at the farmers market had one of those little green cardboard boxes full of.... something. Persimmons, but not like any I'd seen before, they were little and soft, with a lovely velvety surface that seemed to hold the light underneath it.

So I just HAD to have them, of course.

And now you can see why. Isn't it just the prettiest thing?

Found this lovely shiny ball behind the couch where the Little One had hidden it, and had to paint it right away! Shiny things are so much fun to paint.

In case you're wondering.... you can see two doors and doorknobs in the ball, and my yoga-pant-clad-legs and one hand.... the jar that holds my paint brushes, the computer screen and tower, and some light coming in through an obscured window. Hm. And a mechanical pencil.

WIP

well, I think she's still in progress anyways.... she had horns but they weren't working, so now she doesn't have horns and is just a lovely, pale creature in the sunlight... we'll see where it goes :)

Ok, please forgive me for sharing fanart.... I think it's an interesting painting aside from the whole fanart aspect of it, so hopefully not too much forgiveness is required :)
In other news, STUBBLE IS HARD TO PAINT. Oh my goodness not fair. I guess it's mostly that it is an unfamiliar texture, and the unfamiliar is almost always difficult, you know? Expressive eyes, on the other hand, those are just fun to do.

Pink and Blue

Having fun. I've never painted hair like this before, the cut or the color, and of course I usually avoid patterned fabrics.... but for some reason this was an image I just wanted to create! This is one of the lovely folks that stopped by my tent Sunday for Festifall, actually. Hope you like :)

Her Name Meant Ibex

11"x14"

I have so much fun painting little white-blonde children! And redhead. And everything, really.... kids are just awesome.
Horns are fun too.
Have you ever noticed how the whole people-with-horns idea rarely deals with how the horns *attach* to the head? At least with females, we just bury an imaginary juncture in hair and hope for the best.... well, I tried to address is a bit here. And of course her ears got pointy somewhere along the way. Some pieces just paint themselves if you give them a little thought :)

Portal

this one sold at Festifall yesterday to a wonderful lady, but I am very much in love with it and definitely will be exploring the concept further.... it's too rainy today, though, so I'm letting my inspiration percolate. And by that I mean my muse is curled up on the couch with a toy dragon, and I'm sketching :)

This is a huge painting for me!
Like, literally. 16"x20" is barely inside my comfort zone.
But.... it really felt like it deserved the size, you know? There's something magical about the whole pose.

Passionfruit

5"x7"
sold

Something different! Abanitu Farms here at the Durham farmers market has lovely, tasty passionfruit right now- that's something that I REALLY want to be growing, I just don't have a good spot for the vine yet :) And of course I had to try painting one, although I definitely have not yet worked up the nerve to try painting an open one!

Reflections of Marbles

3 1/2" x 5 1/2"

Still on a roll with the wood! I especially love painting something shiny on these pieces, it contrasts so nicely....
Well, I love painting shiny stuff anyways. On anything. But you knew that already.
With this I tried sanding the paint back out in the background, to show off the whole wood grain thing I guess.... even more contrast? I think I like it. Weathered vs. shiny in addition to the basic materials contrast. And of course the fun of painting all the marbles you can't actually see in this painting :)

Alizarin Crimson

8"x16"

Just something beautiful. Inspired by the lovely Julie McNiven as Anna on Supernatural, but I definitely had some fun with it all- I just loved the shapes her hair was making, and the lovely open look on her face,

Of course, at the time she was hearing voices.....

Anyways. I'm still having lots of fun playing with soft edges, especially here, and then the light on her cheekbones was worth doing the whole painting just in itself. The title, you ask? Well, it's a paint color. And I used a lot of it mixed in with her hair, and edging her eye, and then just the tiniest bits mixed in around her lips and the edges of her nose. Trying to bring everything together :)

Something strange :)

Definitely related to "Shadow Side" from earlier this year- same striking little girl, similar Day-of-the-Dead-inspired makeup, but a lot more subtle in some ways. I love that she seems so powerful in this one!

Tricolor Marble III

3 1/2" x 5 1/2"
sold

Isn't this fun? I went to Home Depot today and got some 1x4s, brought them home and broke out the circular saw to cut them into little daily-painting-sized pieces! Some sanding and a coat of paint  and some more sanding before I start the actual daily painting part, and all is well. And this was I get to put a small hole in the back of it, and you can hang my daily paintings just like that, no framing or anything unless you want to!

This makes me happy. I'm working on two life-sized eggplants like this right now :D

Silence

I'm pushing myself to use more soft edges.... and here, just about all of the edges are soft! I love the difference in the way things feel because of that :)
