And Naomi and I just transplanted six dozen little seedlings into their little peat pots, and somehow we STILL have more to transplant- I think I may have overdone it! And for reals, Spring needs to get here already. The weekend should be beautiful, but then it's going to get cold again, and I'm so tired of winter.... sniffle sniffle sniffle..... *cue the crickets*

sorry about missing yesterday, my sweet ones! I got to go and hang out with two wonderful, amazing artists- Jude Harzer and Tim Sheaffer. It was a wonderful day, but no painting happened at all. I take that back- Naomi did some lovely paintings while us grown-ups were talking (ack! am I a grown up? how did that happen?)

I find it interesting that I gave a submarine robot goldfish teeth, though. much weirder than the headlamp, at least to me.

ok, it didn't actually snow last night.... but it got ridiculously cold. seriously, last year this time I had tomatoes out, and this year it's in the low 20's even though it is springtime! not fair!

maybe I could set up a kickstarter and get some help moving to the equator? I'd have a nice little farm, and build lots of little houses so you all could come and visit....

ok, I got almost no painting done today, what with my usual pre-art-festival jitters and disorganization.... but I just did get to work on this one for a little while. it is making me very happy!

A butterfly coming out for springtime, yay! My focus was mainly on the chrysalis, honestly, as a reference for another painting I'm doing.... but I made sure to include the gorgeous blue of her outer wings peeking around.

And THIS is a little pepperoncini pepper seedling. And a green globe artichoke seedling photobombing. Aren't they so cute?

My little Naomi picked a hyacinth for me this morning when we were out in the yard! It smells so beautiful :) Trying a slightly larger painting, this time....

 and this is the world's smallest Meyer Lemon tree! I planted some seeds from a beautiful Meyer Lemon I got at the grocery store, and now have four beautiful little baby Meyer Lemon trees, which makes me so happy! I'll have to build a hoop house for them this fall. And I got a Blood Orange at the store today to try the same thing with :D

If you're wondering how to do it yourself- cut a meyer lemon in half, hopefully not cutting any of the seeds in the process. Fish out the slippery little boogers, and stick them in your mouth to suck off all the citrus-ey-ness. Put directly in a 1/2" deep hole in soft, moistened soil in a warm place. Keep damp, and you should see them coming up in 2 or 3 weeks. Beautiful little things....

My little girl gave this flower to me this morning :) Isn't that just the best feeling? I confess, I am hoping this one doesn't sell, and then I'll keep it forever and ever.... ok, I might even take it back of etsy. Just because I loooooove it that much....

Also, if there was a list of the ten things most hated by artists, I think glare would be towards the top of the list. Augh!

Isn't this just the cutest thing? This morning the Little One and I transplanted a few of our seedlings that had gotten big enough- some black cherry tomatoes and some green globe artichokes- and I just had to paint this little one. Yay, springtime!

This, my friends, is a newly hatched fairy! I don't know how she managed to hatch out of her chrysalis fully dressed, and she didn't stick around to tell me- one of life's great mysteries. Perhaps with further study I will figure it out.

I seem to have an ongoing fascination with goldfish.... ongoing fascination, weird obsession, whatever you call it when an artist does it. Eccentricity? I also don't know what you call the silly little big-bellied goldfish, but this just made sense to me :)

Not from personal experience though. First off, because I'm not an owl, and second, because although I would like to sometimes, I don't actually sleep in a nest. Also, my little girl loves to sleep, and is amazing at it. Just like everything else :)

And back to the wonderful weirdness! Naomi modeled the hands for me..... and obviously, we have been spending a lot of time on garden-type-stuff lately :)

We even planted some more seeds today! I'm afraid we might be going a bit overboard, but it's fun, and I'm sure you can always find good homes for plants. Today it was marjoram, chamomile, and lime basil. And I kid you not, the lime basil seeds are already swollen a bit and looking gelatinous.... I'm a little afraid we're going to have little lime basil tadpoles or something!,

I do love this one :) Really, I've loved all of them in the series I've done! But my art seems to be going in a different direction, so fair warning, I believe this will be the last one like this. Not saying I'll never paint an apple again, but no more simple, An-Apple-Alone-Wint-Her-Thoughts type compoaitions, and least not for a long time,

I do so love the light..... especially today. I spent the morning hauling five gallon buckets of horse poop from my truck bed to my garden through the rain. So now I'm all wore out, but in a happy, dreamy, horse-poop-covered way.

Silly little puppy from last Spring's Whimsical Women Show. Dogs are friggin' hard to paint! And not necessarily because they have no attention span, because I obviously cheated and used a photo for this one.... I think it's all the fur. Hair. Whatever. Apparently I prefer painting skin.
