Marble and Bowl

sold

Something small and shiny.

Creole Garlic

5"x7"

Some absolutely gorgeous garlic from the farmers market- it's a kind that takes summertime heat better than most garlics.

Hazelnuts

5"x7"
sold
I grew them! And they're delicious! Well, the ones I already ate are delicious. I really had to save some to paint, they're just beautiful shapes.

Wolfsbane

5"x7"
sold

This gorgeous thing is in bloom at the NC Botanical Gardens and I'm in love! Unfortunately I've been unsuccessful with starting wolfsbane from seed for three years running, and can't find any plants....

Drink Me

5"x7"
sold

The theme for #strangeoween today is Potions!

Resting

5"x7"
sold

Another little shorebird, holding still for a moment in the fading light with one leg neatly tucked up beneath her.

Just After Sunset

5"x7"
sold

Pretty much a color study, trying to create atmosphere and distance on such a tiny little canvas.... and then getting distracted by clouds, of course.

Translucent

11"x14"
sold

Curves and light, antique bottles lined up on a windowsill and jellyfish slowly and gracefully swimming past. Worlds coming together.

Orange Swirl

5"x7"
sold

I saw the beautiful orange interior of this shell while walking on the beach, and chased through the waves to scoop it up. Just lovely.

Streetlight

5"x7"
sold

Sunset, just as the streetlights come on and with beautiful clouds streaking across the sky.

Inside Curves

5"x7"
sold

A beautiful shell I brought back from the ocean. I really wanted to play up the smooth weight of it, and that wonderful pale glow.

Imperial Moth

5"x7"
sold

Pretty moth my daughter found in the yard.

Bird Whistle

5"x7"
sold

A lovely little bird whistle sculpture from Mexico, again posing on my cigar boxes!

Mother's Purple Dress

11"x14"

This is my daughter, wearing a silky purple dress made for me long long ago by my grandmother!

Black Rooster

5"x7"
sold

I'm auctioning these off and donating the proceeds to victims of Hurricane Harvey.

As Above, So Below

12"x12"
sold

Two beautiful doe skulls, and a metallic border. The colors are so muted but somehow the composition makes it all so vivid!

Cherries and Creamer

5"x7"
sold

Remember this adorable creamer? The last time you saw it, it had hyacinths in it. So that was a while ago. It came out beautifully here though, I just had to remember to be very disciplined about my use of white!

Cherry and Silver

5"x7"
sold
Coming back inside for a few still life dailies. Cherries are always wonderful fun to paint, and I found some beautiful ones.

The Bird and the Fish In Love

16"x20"

A bird may love a fish, but where would they live? Obviously, they'd both get super useful helmets and trade off in each other's worlds.

Farmhouse at Moonrise

5"x7"
sold

Exploring blue twilights again. And moons.

Lunar Eclipse

11"x14"

Night falling, magical things happening. An enormous beech tree and my daughter.

Squash Blossom

5"x7"

There's beauty in the most everyday garden things.

Junebug

5"x7"

sold

Obviously I painted this little critter MUCH larger than life! I held them up a couple inches from my eyes and just..... worked over and out.... it gives the whole painted bug a really cool, mobile quality I think. And I never really know what something looks like until I've painted it, so it's always a cool experience with something new!

Bright

5"x7"
sold

THIS is why daily paintings are so important! I learned so much on this one, and it's not a subject or lighting style I ever would have tried otherwise!

Pink Zinnia

5"x7"
sold

Pretty little still life. Zinnias move a surprising amount after being cut, it was rather a tricky one! I quite like the little dark green apothecary bottle though.

Moonlight

5"x7"
sold

At this point I think I'm painting the air itself! It helps that it's so humid. Makes everything more tangible, lol.

Gardenia

5"x7"

Something simple and beautiful. Gardenias are my favorite flower, but they're devilishly hard to paint!

Dahlias III

5"x7"

Rotated yesterday's bouquet a bit. Dahlias have the most wonderful petals....

Dahlias II

5"x7"

I brought some more dahlias in from the garden to paint! I'm really enjoying this approach to dailies, I'm even sketching in the large forms with a brush which is new for me, and feels wonderful.

Dahlias 1

5"x7"
sold
I think this might be my favorite-ever daily painting!

The Berry Thicket

9"x12"
sold

The rabbit family who lives in the mass of honeysuckle across the road has expanded into the berry thicket by the driveway! The inhabitants of the thicket have been most agreeable about posing.

Barn Owl

11"x14"

Something simple and beautiful. A barn owl flying over the full moon. I thought about adding a cat in there, or some moths flying around.... maybe on another painting, this one felt like it ought to focus on just a couple things.

The Meadow

11"x14"
sold
I love this painting, it *is* magical realism to me. Something beautiful and familiar, with some magic stirred in.

Lilies

8"x8"
sold

My little water-child. A selkie swimming in the waterlilies, in human form.

Blues

5"x7"

Yes, you've seen it before.... but this is one I love so much that I just keep reworking it!

Going Home Again

8"x10"
sold

This piece feels special. Like it's the direction my paintings have always been moving in, bringing things together. I hope so.

A State of Being

8"x10"

Magical things coming together. A little faun-girl inspired by Frida Kahlo, and my first real painting of one of my favorite creatures in the world, a hummingbird.

What Comes After

11"x14"

This one isn't like anything I've done before, and so far has proven impossible to photograph..... but I love it so much.

Unlikely Encounter

8"x10"

Something beautiful. I love how being part of an artist collective encourages me to try things I wouldn't have otherwise! The theme for this auction is Duality.

The Shard

5"x7"

I found a small piece of a wonderfully shiny shell at the beach, and had to try painting it! I always learn so much from a painting like this.

Walking Onions

My walking onions are blooming and staggering around the front yard, and I had to bring one in to paint. They don't even look real, but are so much fun.

Berry Season

5"x7"
sold

Apparently my camera really loves cerulean, I could not get an accurate picture for anything- the blue in question is actually much darker. Gr. Having to make explanations like that takes the edge off my "oh my goodness this is so cute everyone come love it!"

Seaworn

9"x12"
private collection

Look how you can see the shell through the marble! Love it! And of course the amazing textures.... I've got the ocean on my mind.

Bluebird

5"x7"
sold

I picked a couple of shiny things off the bookshelves for a still life tonight- I love the blue of the glass bird, it's so deep.

Pink Interior

5"x7"
sold

Beautiful shiny curves.

Crevasse

5"x7"

I am loving these still life pieces so much,

The Second Day

5"x7"
sold

The first iris is starting to fold in on itself, and then second one is peeking out, ready to unfurl.....

Iris

8"x10"
sold

I've started a row of irises in the backyard, for painting purposes. It'll be beautiful someday. And this is the first flower from it, given to me by a wonderful friend <3 p="">

Curves - Purple and White

5"x7"
sold

I absolutely love how vivid these paintings are, the subjects just feel like they're jumping right off the canvas. I think it's a combination of the outlining, and the layering that's going in to painting them.

Blue and White

5"x7"

I had so much fun with this one! Finally got my courage up to paint the designs on a little saucer.... with a marble, of course.... and it's lovely.
