This is my cousin Erin. I was wanting to paint her like Andrew Wyeth might have seen her.... oh, and with horns. Because horns. The shadows coming off of them just delight me.

Strange Sketches...

So.... there may have been a book that I found completely unreadable, but couldn't bear to dispose of. I may be playing with taking out pages and coating them with gesso and doodling strange things on them.
It makes me uneasy, because I like having a purpose for everything (even if the purpose is simply "you hang this on your wall") but I am having fun, and stretching out my brain. That's a good thing, right?

These little daily paintings are about as far outside of my comfort zone as it is possible to go.... but they feel right. While we were in Pennsylvania for my Grandmother's funeral we walked up the road from my grandparents' house to my Great-Grandma Kiser's (her mother's) old farm.
As you'd guess, it's been there since forever, and I have memories of it going back just about that long, and it just felt right to reach out and try to touch it in paint.

A wonderful collector of mine commissioned these as a housewarming gift- she showed me pictures of the family, and asked me to paint them as a group of my whimsical animals! Five little 9"x12" canvases later.... they look so wonderful together!
