Altered Book page....

Experimenting in.,... well, I guess it's a new medium! Or a new substrate, at the very least. There are nice textures and new thought processes.

Just a Little Open

5"x7"

Ok, at this point I guess I'm just reveling in textures and the whole blue/gold contrast thing. But there's nothing wrong with reveling.

Two Persimmons

9"x12"

I may be a little obsessed with persimmons- I can't help it, they're just so beautiful. I do wish I could find an asian persimmon tree that wasn't grafted, though.... ah, well. I'm sure I'll get all obsessed with painting gooseberries when they come in, or what have you. Can it be spring already? Please?

doodling

It's been a gloomy, aimless sort of day.... which may have led to some doodling. I had a little bitty sketchbook calling my name, I guess.

Four Persimmons

5"x7"

It's been a strange sort of day, but persimmons were painted. They have the strangest glow, even for a fruit.... and a totally different texture and everything else from the asian ones. It's fascinating.

Yolk and Shell

5"x7"

Look at me, painting eggs again! I'm just revisiting all kinds of subject matter right now, and loving it. That yolk is absolutely glowing, and you know I always love painting shiny things. And round things. So eggs are the best of all possible worlds for that, right?

Cracked

Fuzzy

Sometimes, you just have to paint cows.

Happy Holidays! Yay, painting ribbon!

Cropped Avocado

5"x7"

Yay, new canvases came in the mail, and now shiny new paintings are being created!

Waiting for a Cue

12"x12"

Just a teensy bit strange.

Or maybe that's a teensy bit of an understatement. Tickled to pieces about it anyways, spooky backlighting and facepaint and all!

Cara

11"x14"

I've been having trouble with the whole focusing thing lately.... this was a fun painting, though. Yay for having beautiful friends.

just sketching....

more canvases have been ordered, but I am all out for the moment!

Magic Forest

5"x7"

I love doing daily paintings. Just because I learn so much!

Hatched

5"x7"

So I'm reading about mushrooms, and I've got a mushroom bed going in the front yard that will hopefully fruit this summer, and it only makes sense that I'm painting mushrooms as well.

The Team

I was going through my photos from Savannah, and absolutely had to paint this.... I think I got a bit carried away, especially for a little postcard-sized painting, but I absolutely love it!

By the Half Moon

12"x12"

Because her portrait somehow ended up being the inspiration for this portrait of a unicorn. Well, that and a fascinating article about a deer in Europe who ended up being a unicorn because of his unusual antler configuration.

So. Evening, and last night's rising moon, and a lovely unicorn.

Venus in Ascension

Playing with a portrait of my daughter, because....

As always, I had an absolutely wonderful time at Whimsical Women! The weather was lovely, the people were lovely, none of my paintings tried to fly away.... So yes. Splendid. And now I'm home again, snuggling into my little patterns and all the wonderful new ideas that have come to me recently.

Just a celebration of shiny round things. Marbles and a mirror ball and one of those wonderful recycled glass floats, all things I keep coming back around to.

just a sketching....

Having trouble getting any actual paintings finished, and that is going to be a problem, with Whimsical Women coming up! Wish me luck.

Visiting the Old House

I love, love, LOVE this one. Which most likely means that most people won't find it as epic as I do, but I'm okay with that. She can hang here at my house just fine, lol....

This is my cousin Erin. I was wanting to paint her like Andrew Wyeth might have seen her.... oh, and with horns. Because horns. The shadows coming off of them just delight me.

Strange Sketches...

So.... there may have been a book that I found completely unreadable, but couldn't bear to dispose of. I may be playing with taking out pages and coating them with gesso and doodling strange things on them.
It makes me uneasy, because I like having a purpose for everything (even if the purpose is simply "you hang this on your wall") but I am having fun, and stretching out my brain. That's a good thing, right?

And if you angle your eyes just a smidge up from the last painting.... this is where you end up. Something about persimmons just brings out the impressionist in me.
