.... and then this happened.

Not paintings, I know. But they exist, and since we're suffering from an excess of yarnwear due to my and my creativity, they're available! Naomi watched Totoro for the first time this week, and I had some variegated grey yarn on hand that wanted to be a extra-chunky-knit Thing so I made them while watching Totoro this week.

Passage

This was entirely too much fun to paint. Just so interesting. Although I do sometimes wish I could just get my mind going in one direction for five sequential minutes please....

The Call of the Sea

 12"x12"

Experimenting with a painting that I love that didn't sell right away.... just wanted to see where she would go, and it's a totally different feeling now, all dissolving and floaty!

Red Edges

5"x7"

Oh goodness, look at that texture! Om nom nom nom nom. This one I kept at a kind of "sketch" stage because I just fell in love with the way the foremost clove pops out at the viewer.

Eggplants in the Light

Just a quiet little still life. I love the way it feels, the light is so sparkly.

Lotus Water

8"x16"
sold

I know, I know, I promised you lots and lots of ocean stuff. Working on it, things take time. So today I'm sharing something I've been fussing over for a while and finally finished- I'm writing a kids' book, and trying to figure out how to illustrate it sine my usual approach to painting isn't working. I like the stylized feel of this though.

It's really too bad that I don't have people clamoring for me to paint custom portraits of their pet goldfish..... lol....

Swancake

Argh! Why is icing so hard to paint? I think different lighting is in order for next time. Still, I love the shapes that came through!

Patience

*moooo*

I'm delighted with this one. The brushstrokes are all tangible and visible but still add up to a nice rounded form and that's a tricky line to walk!

Artist Appreciation Month and Brian Stroud

Once upon a time when I was a kidlet, someone gave me a Brian Stroud book. It totally blew my mind, and I found a few more when I became a bigger kidlet capable of tracking down my own books.

Because magical creatures and more magical creatures, ALWAYS. I'm thinking his amazing kelpie drawing, which was in that first book of his that I got, may have bubbled up and helped me with my water horses..... that, and reading Maggie Stiefvater's Scorpio Races.

And I might not have realized it but for Patience Brewster having her annual ornaments bonanza or whatever it is going on over there :)
