My little one dressed up an old monkey doll passed down to her from my sister.... and I just HAD to paint a portrait of the result!

Venturing outside my comfort zone for this one! But it makes me happy- the light is beautiful, and I am always happy when painting my Baby.

The Skull My Father Gave Me

This was pure self indulgence. All the marvelous little shapes in the skull, and the rich soft silk, and the dark background.... I am tempted not to even put this one up for sale!

Oh my goodness, I am loving these still life pieces! I tried to stay very loose with the pink silk, and gradually work up to the more delicate areas.

Persimmons in Soft Light

Beautiful soft edges. I learn so much from these daily paintings. And persimmons seemed like the perfect thing to paint on the first day of autumn!

I would sit here and type something out properly, but the Tiny Human is standing behind me asking me to go outside with her and catch lightning bugs! Love y'all.

Just something simple, and pretty. Folded paper and a mirrored sphere, things I've been painting for a long time now, brought together with softly flowing cloth.

Look! Something shiny!

I swear, all my daily paintings are basically "Hi! So this caught my eye, and I experimented while painting it, and learned a lot, and pretty!"

Gah, I am so in love with this painting! Naomi's toys inspired it, of course, she was fast asleep with one of the dolls and the other was lying nearby and inspiration suddenly struck.

Before the Rain

I've been wanting and wanting to do more still life stuff, and some produce actually made it past my daughter and all the way into the house- so I jumped on the opportunity! Love the colors, and the shapes the cloth made running all around and under the jumble of things. I have all this amazing stuff on my bookshelves, but when I've been taking it down to do a just-one-thing still life it just feels so static that I lose heart.... all together like this it feels really exciting.

Quiet Morning

Yes, another teacup. This weather is really messing with me, it's not supposed to turn cool and rainy this early in the year! So hot tea actually makes a lot of sense at the moment.

Yesterday's painterly teacup was so much fun that I wanted to try something along the same lines.... but this cup has a LOT more going on, with all the gold patterning on the black background!

Dude. I am so impressed with myself right now- I think I might actually be "getting" this whole soft edges thing!

Poblano peppers make me happy. Poblano peppers that I pick from plants in my backyard make me even happier! This one is destined to become part of a soup tomorrow.

My favorite flower! Just so rich and creamy and perfect, totally capable of being all awesome and sculptural even against a pale neutral background like this.

And I am back to painting unicorn skulls again! Not the more deer-like species I have been painting, a larger horse-like species of unicorn this time. With peaches, of course. I think I should give myself some rule that I always have to include perishables in any still life, love the feeling...
