Just beautiful light, and beautiful fruit. The end of summer makes me sad, but there is still so much to love about it.

The rain brought the dandelions back, beautiful little short lived flowers that they are.... I love them! And Naomi loves them even more. I'd never painted one like this before, after blooming but before fluffy seedheadedness.

I've been missing these wildlife-cam type paintings.... no glowing eyes this time, but I love it anyways!

Flight

8"x16"
sold

I've really been missing still lifes lately, but hadn't been sure what exactly I was missing about them, so I wasn't sure exactly how to jump back in in the non-daily-painting still life capacity..... at any rate. Origami is always fun!

Naiad

9"x12"
sold

Remember her? Yeah. I love this painting, and she's always a big favorite when I go to art shows or wherever, but somehow no one has gotten around to buying her yet! So I'm sitting here and she catches my eye and I wonder, what would make it better as a painting? And so I made the shadows deeper and the scales shinier and the pearls bigger, and somehow her hair got longer and fuller along the way....

Pumpkin Top

Late summer.... when you can have watermelon and pumpkins both sitting there begging to be painted. Loving this one- I discovered some new oranges, and the way it curves up into the frame is wonderful!

I may be getting a teensy bit carried away with the fruit. It is August, after all.

TEXTURES! This is my textures happy dance....

Good thing you can't actually see me. Yay, fuzzy, yay, shiny, yay, glowy.

Sliced Lemon

Not my most creative title, I'm sure, but I don't do well with titles.... Colors, now, colors I can do. And interesting shadows. And texture, shiny dimpled lemon skin texture.

Somehow I wound up playing around in the photos I took at Merfest- and just had to paint this one of Kailani!

Sliced Plum

Just painting/sketching fruit for the heck of it I guess. Like look, shiny! Look, ROUND! Oooooh, and if I cut into it then it's juicy and that's even more fun to paint!

Eggplants, because I just can't resist. I really am going to have to grow some of my own next year, they're just too beautiful....

Portrait Commission

16"x20"

I love this one so much! The subject wanted to be Elsa in her portrait, and then she wanted to be a unicorn, so she got to be both.

Skull and Windowsill

I wanted to challenge myself with something very subtle, where it's all tricks of little value changes, and I'm so proud of the result!

Blue Moon

Little white-haired children are so striking.... I know I'll never have one, so I'll just have to be content borrowing them for painting every now and then!

Two Strawberries.... again

Feeling seriously out of sorts today, so I just played with an older daily, softening edges and blurring some parts, adding detail in others.... please, somebody take this one off my hands.

Glass Knight

Trying to paint something that is barely there, visually.... is harder than I thought it would be. It also cast a much darker shadow than I expected. Lots of fun, though!

Garlic in Shadow

Another weirdly cool, rainy day.... so I retreated into the familiarity of a nice daily painting. Of garlic. Of course. Sending hugs out into the world along with some vampire repellent.

Ah-HA! I have finally done another school-of-robot-goldfish painting. Or goldanglerfish. Something like that. Please don't ask for too much sense out of this old brain, not after this particular weekend especially. Love it.

So I went to Florida, and saw my first ever armadillo! And it was adorable and fascinating and of course I ended up painting inspired by it :)

My little bitty Water Monster. From a photo I took of her late in the evening, just standing up out of the ocean and looking at me like Mama, what are you doing with the camera again? With some creative coloring and reflective eyes, which is becoming a major Thing for me!

The Artist's Thumb

I was at SCAD with the wonderful and amazing Jude Harzer, and one of the student pieces on the wall was a small painting of a thumb. I admired it, and knew I just had to try one of my own.... so here we are!
