Juicy :)

I'm going a bit more crazy than usual today.... I always have issues when I head out of town, though. I know I'm looking forward to spending all of next week in Nantahala, but I probably won't 'feel' it again till we're on our way!
Not to worry, though, I'm trying very hard to set up the blog so it will update every single day that I'm gone. Hugs to you, my readers!

Antique Wrench and Marble

sold
This one took forever- something about the metal and glass together was really throwing me off my game- but it all came together in the end! And I love that I'm getting out my awesome antique monkey wrench again :)

One that I certainly should have shared with you guys before it sold.... but I didn't have a chance! It turned out so well :) Of course, that's partially due to having such a wonderful model, lol....

Flame

I keep some candles, an incense burner, this awesome rock with fossilized shell imprints in it, a beautiful marble with a flower inside it, and a little Goddess figurine on a bookshelf here in the studio... the candles in there inspired this painting. I love how simple it is!

Anybody know exactly what it is they put on top of fruit tarts to make them so pretty and shiny? It's really fun to paint!

Strawberry Cupcake

I really enjoyed posting the step by step thing for the last cupcake, so I thought I'd try it again. This, of course, is the part where it's so vauge you can't tell anything but that it's in more of less the right place...
And here is where you consider wiping it because it doesn't look how you wanted it to at all!
And then things start improving. You know, I don't even like to eat icing? It sure it fun to paint, though. And you notice all kinds of fascinating things about the surface of the cake when you start painting it, too!

And here we're all done, and happy, and able to eat the gracious muse :)

Compression

5"x7"
sold
This might be a bit random.... but that just comes with the territory when you're doing daily paintings, doesn't it? I mean, that's part of the awesomeness. One day you're painting a cupcake, the next you're painting a horse, the next a gnarly old c clamp trying to eat your favorite shiny metal ball!

Big Sky

5"x7"
sold
Something a little different! I had a photo shoot with a gorgeous horse recently, and the reference for this painting was a complete accident, obviously.... but when I was looking through the photographs, for some reason the weird crop really appealed to me. Just feels right, for some reason :)

So graceful :)
I really do want dreadlocks.... but I'm not sure my hair would do it, and I haven't worked up the nerve to try it yet. So I'm just admiring hers in paint right now!

Cupcake VI

Hello! Sorry I skipped yesterday- it was fun, but busy, and I didn't get ANY painting done. To make up for that a little, I did step-by-step photos of the cupcake painting from today :)
allright, everything is in pretty much the right spot, and I like the way it fills up the board....
oh shoot! it's hideous! make it stop!
(all paintings go through an ugly phase, so far as I know. of course, so far as I know, they all have to get mangled by a small child or puppy at least once too, so I might not be the best source of information on this)
 still ugly, but getting better.
mmm, I like the cake part! oh shoot, I totally modelled the icing wrong!
 *sigh* much better....

All done! And very nummy, I might add :)

No, I'm not done with the Festival sketches.... but Her Nuggettness talked me into some cupcakes while we were at Whole Foods yesterday, and in the Name of Art, I got them. This is totally a weird color for icing, but I love how it came out!

Guitar and Kilt

9"x12"
You have to admire a man who can totally rock out while wearing a kilt! This is the guitarist from Saor Patrol- they are amazing!- who played on Saturday at the festival. They're from Scotland, and I think I'm going to try and paint the fellow who was playing the bagpipes too....

Starry Night

This stunningly beautiful creature came by my tent at the festival a few times... she was looking at the same mermaid that was reflecting blue light all over everyone when I snapped the reference for this one, and I decided to name my attempt at a quick portrait of her after the tattoo on her arm- Van Gogh's Starry Night. Just beautiful....

This little girl went flying by my tent on her way to the rain tent at the festival! I got lucky and caught her in midair, all sunlight and grace... don't you just love that blonde hair?

Trying the dancing thing again! This lovely girl was dancing to Saor Patrol (they. are. awesome.) in her shorts and bikini top at the Festival... I couldn't help abandoning my tent with those guys playing, and I got some wonderful pictures and sketches because of it. She was such a graceful dancer....

Reflected Light

And here I had a nice stationary subject, with beautiful features and fascinating hair! The blue reflected light was coming off of a very large painting of a mermaid I had set up in the sun right next to her- I love how the colors came out, with her tan and the strangeness of the blue!

Something fun, inspired by the Festival for the Eno :)
The whole dancing thing is really hard to paint! Must be the illusion of movement being hard to capture, or something.... interesting, though. And pretty.

I had a bolt of inspiration today! Well, we'll see how I feel about it once I actually get started... but the idea is that I was to do a series of sketches based on pictures I took at the Festival for the Eno.

I'm baa-aaaaack!
Well, kindof. I went up to Pennsylvania with Mama and Her Nuggettness for a family reunion, and then came back and promptly lost my mind trying to get ready for the Festival for the Eno! I'll get the blog all caught up, not to worry.... and a lot of it will be whimsical paintings, I'm sure :)
If you're anywhere near Durham, NC this weekend you should definitely come and see me, though- it'll be crazy hot, but the Festival is always a lot of fun. Great music, beautiful arts and crafts, and of course the rain tents and the river to cool off in!
