Gardenia and Reflection

sold
I picked some of my favorite flowers on the way home again, and now the whole house smells like gardenias. Happy!

Dropper and Brown Glass

6"x8"
sold
I am feeling decidedly out of sorts today.... but I'm happy with my painting, and that's something :) Weird upward shadow with this one, from the sunlight reflecting off the floor.

Copper Lighter II

5"x7"
sold
Same lighter as yesterday, turned around and more open. Dudes, do you see the little fragment of my fingerprint on the metal? I'm so tickled by that little detail!

Copper Lighter I

4"x4"
sold
Copper is so much fun to paint! This lighter belongs to the husband who, I believe, got it from his dad, who used it when he was serving in Vietnam once upon a time. It's got a beautiful worn surface.
In other news, etsy is being stupid and refusing to load this image and make it available for purchase, so I'm going to go deal with that!

I was unable to fix it, so I assume Etsy's servers are overloaded or something right now.... I'll try again after the baby's nap!

MUAH HA HA HA HA! Success! It's up on Etsy now :)

Rubber Duckie

3"x6"
sold
This one.... well, this one was the dog's idea. Kindof. She brought it into the studio planning to chew on it, and I took it away, and then decided it might make a fun little subject for a daily painting. What do you think? I got to paint it life sized and everything!

Hyacinths WIP

WIP
I think I'm having a bit of an epiphany here... something about painting the light, not the ostenible subject of the painting. We'll see :)

River Clam Shell

3"x5"
sold
I find shells like this in the rivers around our house all the time... no doubt they have a proper name, but I don't know it. I just found this one so irresistably beautiful I had to try and give it a paint!

Searching

This is a peculiar little painting, but I have to say I really like the idea... a lot of it depended on the gradation of color in the background, which surprised me! But the overall shape just feels right, you know? Especially with the spiral shell, and me being so terribly fond of spirals :)

Slice of Bacon

4"x6"
click here to purchase for $20
Bacon is really hard to paint! I guess because it's kind of a weird texture that has to be brought out by making it shiny.... anyways, this was a lot of fun :) And you know you want to hang it in your kitchen, right next to a painting of a cupcake or something!

Avacado Closeup III

5"x7"
click here to purchase for $20
I'm sure I was about to type something relevant to painting or avacados or something... but then my iheartradio station started playing Johnny Cash, and I started singing along, and it went right out of my head. Hopefully you'll forgive me, and just enjoy the painting :)

Watermelon Slice

6"x6"
click here to purchase for $40
Watermelon is an awesome thing to paint! I had no idea how many little subtleties I'd find.... sometimes it seems like I've never really 'seen' something until I've painted it :)
Thought I'd share this painting a little ways in- for some reason I really wanted a light colored background, but it just wasn't working for me! I might try that again, but really, fruit glows so wonderfully against a rich dark background....

Heirloom Tomato on White

6"x8"
sold
This bit of summery gorgeousness is from the farmers' market, but yesterday I noticed that I have one red tomato and one orange one down in the garden- I'll be harvesting tomatoes soon! So excited :)

Pomegranante Half

4"x4"
This one might look familiar.... I adore it, and for some reason it hadn't found a home, so I got to repaint a few parts and add details to others. That's always fun, especially with a I-must-be-crazy-for-painting-this fruit like a pomegranate! I love how you can see the shape of the flower still there in the shape of the fruit.

Avacado and Reflection

5"x7"
Eggplant yesterday, avacado today- must be summertime! Even if this is the strangest summer ever- I swear it was actually cool today, I don't know if it even broke seventy degrees!
I was thinking about naming this one "Avacado and Van Dyke Brown" instead of "Avacado and Reflection".... thoughts? Like is it just me as someone who obsesses over paints who would even say Van Dyke Brown, or would it be kindof cool?

Reflected Light

5"x7"
sold
Doesn't that just look delicious? I've got an eggplant ravioli recipe I'm wanting to try- usually, for me, eggplants are one of those things that look way better than they taste, but I'm looking forward to trying something new!

Rabbit Skull

6"x8"
sold
I know it's not for everybody.... but there's something so amazing and beautiful about bones, especially skulls.
Also, good news for my friends and collectors in places other than the US- today I discovered that by shipping First Class instead of Priority, I can make international shipping quite affordable! So I'm in the process of trying to figure out individual rates for individual countries.... if you want me to hurry up and figure your country out already, just let me know!

Shadow Line

I have to admit to being rather proud of this one! Something about the way the sunlight cuts across, and the way it forms the reflections as well as just the pattern of light and dark- I'm going to have to do something like this again!

Red Sharpie

Sometimes people ask me where I get my inspiration from, and how I think of all these different things to paint. Honestly.... if you're finishing a painting every day, everything is fair game to paint! And you learn something from every single painting, and that's the beauty of it :)

I found this lovely Moscato at Weaver Street, since they didn't have any of my usual Benjamin's Vineyard scuppernong wine.... nummy :)
