Something for Whimsical Women- coming up on Saturday. My goodness, how time flies! It isn't May yet or anything, is it? If it is, I have some bills that need to be dealt with :-/

Something sweet, from a picture of when my little girl was very little :)
Now, she was bald as an egg for ages, but I'm considering going in and adding some hair.... I dunno. Cute little baby curls. Thoughts?

Another whimsical painting. I feel so blessed to have my Nugget helping me out in the studio- she really is the inspiration for all of these playful ones :) And on that note-

Whorl

5"x7"
I wasn't at all sure what to paint today- Her Nuggetness is in a mood, probably because it's been raining something fierce all day, and of course that always throws everything off. But.... Her Nuggetness suggested painting a horse, and I think that was a wonderful idea! I've never tried to focus on that funny little whorl that happens between their eyes before, but it was a lot of fun to paint.

Little Pink Pillow

9"x12"
Wow. Did I really say yesterday that it's less than three weeks till Whimsical Women? Because that was a bit of an understatement, since it's two weeks from today. Geez, time flies!
I love it, though. Springtime is a wonderful season. It's raining cats and dogs and peacocks outside right now, but I'm happy and cozy and painting, and that is a wonderful feeling :)

Hm.... something different, on the dandelion front. After the flower closes up, but before it unfurls again with all those pretty fluffy seeds :)

Just Cracked

I got to thinking it'd been a while since my last egg painting, and then did this lovely little thing! I'm going crazy trying to get ready for the two shows I'm doing in May, so these little daily paintings are doing a great job of trying to help me stay sane :)

One Red Pear

5"x7"
Back to a pear, after having to work so hard on those figs!
Ah, you gotta love pears, though. Like doing nudes, without the prbody is going to mark me 'offensive' for painting a lucious, curvy, richly colored piece of fruit reclining across a canvas....

Two Figs

Gish, figs are hard to paint! You wouldn't believe how many times I repainted different parts of this one.... but that is what learning is all about, isn't it? And I'm happy with it now, and looking forward to doing figs again sometime- you never see textures like this anywhere else!

Rooster on Blue

See what I meant from yesterday, about focusing more on the feeling of it? I love how I could just let the background color be the body, and add just the details there....

Dandelion IX

5"x7"

Another dandelion painting- they're such interesting flowers to paint! And I think I'm going through another developmental growth spurt with these paintings, focusing more on the feeling and less on the 'finish', you know? Good things :)

Dandelion VIII

4"x6"

Well.... I was thinking about doing another dandelion painting anyways, and Nugget got to 'helping' me in the studio and got her little bitty hands on this one, and so I had to do some repainting on it. Even better now!

Ok, I think this'll be the last baby for a little while.... I put out a call on facebook like 'i need new ideas for daily paintings!' and I got some good ones :)
But isn't she just the cutest little thing?

White Dress, Field

6"x6"
My little angel :)
The light makes the most wonderful patterns, coming across her shoulders like that.... I've got a painting in my head that's based on that idea, just more subtle. The problem is, I can't get her to hold still for it! Hopefully I'll have some inspiration soon on how to manage that one!

Curls

Once again, grateful for friends with truly beautiful little angels. That halo of curls, and that funny, almost indignant expression.... and don't worry, if you're missing my Nugget, she'll be making an appearance tomorrow :)

Sleep in Blue

6"x8"
Same beautiful little girl :) And I did it from a flash photograph, so it actually is possible to make a lovely painting from a flash photo!
And I don't know if this is just a weekend for lessons in relative color or what, but here is "Curiousity" again, and I swear I barely touched her skin, and photographed it in the same light as yesterday! Crazy!

So far as the significance of the day goes, I'll tell you what I said on facebook:
To my Heathen friends, Happy Eostre!
To my Wiccan friends, Happy Ostara!
... even if both of those were actually last month.... silly Christians, moving perfectly good holidays around....
To my Christian friends, Happy Easter!
To my Jewish friends, Chag Sameach!
... And to my Muslim friends.... the internet tubes inform me that you don't celebrate anything today, but happy day anyways!
Have a great day no matter what your faith. :)

Curiousity

Hm... Putting two pictures on just one blogpost is trickier than it used to be...
Ah! There we go! Well, kindof.
5"x7"
I am blessed enough to have wonderful friends who will graciously allow me to use their children as inspiration for paintings! And blessed to be able to do this whole daily painting thing, simply because you loearn so stinking much doing it.... like with this painting. The image below is when I thought it was done, and above the second time I finished it, because I wanted to go back through and lose some edges, and play with a few parts. The problem is, looking at these pictures it seems I lost some of the radiance in her beautiful skin....
And yet, looking at it in person, it doesn't look that way. Is it because the background got warmer, so there's less of a contrast? What would this look like with a cool background, but the same lost edges? I don't know, but I intend to find out! And let you know, too. Don't worry :)

Lemon and Reflection

Isn't this just the cutest little lemon? Citrus peel has an interesting texture, and I really focused on trying to show that this time. Texture adds so much touchability or something to a painting....

Little Violet

4"x4"
I don't know why, but this little dear's personality just isn't quite coming through in the photo, and that makes me sad- it's so very vivid in person! Ah, well.... it makes me happy anyways. Violets are the absolute dickens to paint- what is it about secondary colors?- but satisfying, in their own tiny way.

My little angel's little worn-out ballet slippers. I love this painting! A composition like this makes a painting feel so three dimensional, and then little worn-out shoes have so much personality...

Crocs are such funny shoes... definitely in the ;so ugly they're cute' category. This was my daughter's first pair of 'big girl' shoes- probably because she could put them on and take them off again all by herself :)

Baby Shoe

5"x7"
This is a portrait of my little Nugget's first shoe. Baby shoes are so much fun to paint!
I'm working on a page for my website, so people will be able to commission little shoe portraits like this one... wouldn't that be such a wonderful thing to have? Much better than covering them with gold spray paint and having to dust them all the time :) I'm thinking $30 +s&h for a 6"x8" single shoe portrait, and $60 +s&h for an 8"x8" double shoe portrait... and I'm working on one of her beautiful little ballet slippers for the double shoe portrait example, it's going to be gorgeous!
