You know, after I painted the amaryllis I got to thinking- I meant to paint some asparagus too! Thankfully, it still is asparagus season in some parts of the country, even if it is summertime already here.... Just looking at this brings springtime back, doesn't it?

Abalone Shell - WIP

Something I'm really excited about :) Honestly, Sadie Jernigan Valerie did a breathtaking painting of an abalone shell, you know with the waxed paper all arching up over it, and actually with hers the exterior of the shell was polished too, but that painting inspired me to try one lying flat at eye level like this, I wanted to play up that rough exterior and how it contrasts with just a peek of the iridescent insides.....

One of those things I really wanted to paint during the winter when it was blooming, but I never really got around to it. Thank goodness for digital cameras, huh?

Eggplant XII

Just reworking an old painting... I wanted to play up a kind of purple and gold thing, the complementary colors and all :)

Artichoke WIP

Just something that I wanted to share- I like how it's coming along. It's amazing how much drama you can get out a vegetable, sometimes :)

The Frog Prince

I know the idea is a cliche, but I enjoyed painting it so much I don't care :) I think I'm starting to feel better, too....

Flamingo on Black II

My poor little princess might be coming down with something... but she's holding this painting now and talking to it, seems like it's making her feel better :)

Flamingo on Black

It's funny, I got these little canvases so I could do life-sized paintings of little bitty things.... and now I find myself wanting to do things from our trip to the zoo on them. Oh, well. I do love flamingos. Hm. Flamingoes? Nope, spell checker says the first one is right :)

Ballet Slipper

A friend of ours, a wonderful woman, gave Nugget a pair of her daughter's old ballet slippers when we went over to deliver a portrait. They're still a smidge big for my baby girl (she is now 19 months old, can you believe it?) so she let me borrow one for this painting. I love it!

Chicken on Green

Tips on how to photograph these small paintings? Please? I've suddenly become retarded in this department :( On the other hand, this is another on of those paintings that just makes people smile, and that's always nice.

Here's Looking at You

A particularly silly looking chicken :) Honest, this was the clearest picture I could get of the painting, the camera and I are not getting along this evening. Sorry about that!

Sprouting Onion

I'm sure I'm not supposed to let my onions get like this, but, well, it happens sometimes. And on a red onion, too! It just looks so pretty :)

work in progress

That same self portrait... it's definitely evolving. I like it a lot more at the moment.

Happy Friday the 13th, everybody!

Glass Crown

Nugget found a ziploc bag full of these little bitty chess pieces the other day, goodness knows where, and I just had to paint one :)

Kitten Dreams

This one sold for a mother's day present- that made me happy :)

Walking on Water

This one... it was partially done, and still damp, when Naomi took a squirt bottle full of water to it. After my initial panic faded, I realized I liked the effect, so as I finished it I made sure to leave some of the "worn" looking areas. I'll have to figure out how to use that idea again!

Dancing Cow

I almost added some flowers down at the edge of the canvas... I might go back and do that sometime, this one didn't seel at the show, but I love it because it makes me laugh....

Flying Horses

Still tired.... and still wanting to post my whimsical paintings :)

The Land of Nod

Well, today was awesome, and you guys are great :) I am absolutely beat now, so I'm going to go suddle up with Nugget and be a vegetable for the rest of the day.... and then tomorrow and for the rest of this week my focus will probably be on getting a few commissions completed!

I liked doing these silly paintings, though, and I hope to continue with them....

This one had me laughing the entire time I was painting it :D wish me luck at Whimsical Women tomorrow!

Thursday, May 5, 2011

I have no idea why I'm enjoying painting pearly necklaces onto birds, of all things..... looking forward to this Saturday!

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

Another one for Whimsicals :) This one is loosely based on a wonderful photo taken by a frient of mine, Frances Eyl... I think I would like to do more work with nests. Something that properly delves into their marvelous organic complexity.

The Red Hat

I love pelicans... like all these other silly ones, it'll be available at Whimsicals. But you can email me if you live too far away from chapel Hill or something and still really want one of them :)
