Bonfire

This is a first for me, and I love it! All that drama.... now I kee trying to imagine something like this as a backdrop for one of my still life pieces, but I'm not sure it could work.

The Naked Lemon

9"x12"
available

This one was so much fun to paint, even though it took forever, but the yellow of the lemon peel against that purple sky is just delicious, and I put it in this great big frame and it just pops.

It's funny, Mama keeps calling it the ghost lemon, because the lemon has disappeared, wheras for me it's the naked lemon, since somewhere out there the lemon that was previously wearing this is naked. I dunno. It's fun.

Pumpkin and Storm

12"x12"
available
Gorgeous pumpkin from the farmer's market, which will shortly be a pie. I am so in love with this painting- the orange just glows, and the water droplets are so convincing, and I feel good about them because they makes sense, you know, with the cloudy sky, so it's not just a gimmicky thing, and the reflected lights, and the texture on the skin of the pumpkin and on the wooden shelf...

Naomi on the Shore

18"x24"
My little angel, from a picture taken at the beach this summer :) I know portraits are usually done with the person the other way around, but this is so her, you know? Splashing through the ocean, all determination and cuteness, just sure she'll be able to catch that seagull!
And, of course, a link to my portraits page: http://kelliemarianhill.com/commission-a-painting.html In case you want to commission something for Christmas :)

Fluffy the Goldfish

9"x12"

Maybe I'll countdown to Saturday with these sillies. I mean, when else am I going to paint up a mounted goldfish named Fluffy?
Sometimes paintings should just make you smile, you know?

Pomegranate V

6"x6"
available
Same as yesterday... even though this one is a reworking of a previous daily painting. I really like this version better- the last one was a little too mysterious for me :)

Xylophone

nfs
Another one of Nugget's toys, same scale :) Is that even the way you spell xylophone? I don't think the spell checker is working today.

Little Red Car

2.5"x3" ATC
nfs
I was looking at Duane Keiser's Oddments blog, and just admiring them so much, and got to thinking that maybe a change in scale would help get me more inspired in the dailies department... I think I was right, I'm really enjoying the close-up possibilities, but now I don't know what to DO with the idea...
Like, do I sell them on etsy for $20 like all my other dailies? I think so. I know he sells his for $100 each, but he gets a lot more for his regular dailies... but I always get nervous pricing stuff, even though I know that's ridiculous.... gr. We'll see. What do you think?

Six Pink Tulips

30"x30"
available
A painting that is up at Broad Street Cafe :)
I've shared it before, but I altered it significantly and like it a lot better now- the change in persepctive worked wonders, but I think the blue background was an important change, too. It's a really nice mixed blue, I ought to use it again...

Nugget at the Ocean

nfs
Just a weird little sketch. I think I'm going to do something for real with the reference picture, though, I love how adorably determined she looks, marching along the shore... :)

Peaches on Blue

24"x48"
sold
One of my pieces that's up at Broad Street Cafe... it's really very beautiful and bright, I have such trouble photographing these big ones sometimes :( But if you go by, then you can see it in person, and try the awesome pizza. Good beer, too- the sweet potato lager is really incredible.

Pumpkin in Shadow

6"x8"
All about the light again. Totally different light, though, all pushed back in the shadow so it's only lit up on a little bit. It seems a lot more rounded this way, doesn't it?

Orange Glow

All about the light, here. I mean, the reflection and the wonderful orangeness and all, but that's all about the light too.

Twilight Pear

6"x8"
I'm getting a bit obsessed with this produce at eye level thing... and the idea of capturing that light at the end of the day. Like here, fading from yellow to a soft, dark blue without the sky turning green, you know? All about the atmosphere. And I swear, I'm not exagerrating that moon. It took my breath away.

The Close Up

6"x8"
Yes, I know it's November, but I've decided that pumpkins are so beautiful that it doesn't matter to me. Do people really purchase paintings for Halloween, anyways? I mean, I would get this because of the color, and the glow of it, and just the wonderful autumney feel... you wouldn't only have a painting of asparagus up in the springtime, or would you? That would be kind of cool, too, a seasonally rotating collection of daily paintings of produce...

Reflections and Falling Star

16"x20"
available
And I decided to explore the eggplant and falling star thing at 16"x20"... it didn't get much of a response smaller, but I really really really loved it, so there you go :)
As the title indicates, the reflections in the dark glossy surface of the eggplant itself were a HUGE draw for me, you can even see me sitting there in the studio paintings it, though it's vague enough that really, it just feels like it's reflecting whoever is there gazing at the painting, which is super cool to me.

Midnight Flight

24"x36"
available
Another one of the toy paintings that are up at Broad Street Cafe now. You really ought to go by! Of course I want you to go and see the paintings, that's a given, but the food is great too, especially the pizzas. Nugget and I went earlier this evening and had the special- a shitake, spinach, pecan, and goat cheese pizza, which may sound a little odd, but is phenomenal.
